All non-immigrant visa applicants are required to have an interview, including children under 14 years old and applicants 80 years old or older.
Individuals with currently valid U.S. visas do not have to come to the Embassy to have their fingerprints scanned until the visa expires and they wish to apply for a new one.
Diplomats and government representatives travelling on official business (A-1, A-2, G-1, G-2 and G-4) do not need to appear in person or to be fingerprint-scanned, unless requested to do so after an examination of the application papers.
Renewals And Transfers Of Visas
A valid visa in an expired or cancelled passport remains valid so long as the bearer has a new passport. There is no special process for the renewal of an expired visa or for the transfer of a valid visa from an old passport to a new passport. To renew a visa, the applicant must complete the entire application process, make an appointment, and appear at the embassy for an interview and finger scanning.
